Our Donors

Everyone involved in The Mango Tree understands how important and life changing our work and projects are to the rural people that your money helps support. We simply couldn't do any of it without our donors. Some of our donors have generously supported us from the beginning. We are indebted to all of you and proud to count you as a friend of The Mango Tree.

The Mango Tree is a model of how a good charity should be run. It inspired me to set up my own small charity. If only there were more like it, the world would be a better place.

How you can work with us?

The Mango Tree works closely with individuals, as well as schools, churches and societies Our work also relies on our lasting relationships with UK Trusts and Foundations and our partnerships with statutory funding institutions and on building corporate funding relationships.

If you are an individual, represent a trust or foundation, society or organisation and are interested in joining with us, making a gift, supporting our work with a regular donation  or on a one-off basis then we would love you to get in touch.

We will endeavour keep you regularly informed of how your money was spent, and to build long term partnerships that align your interests with our funding priorities. So that the rural communities that we support in Kenya and Tanzania can achieve their full potential.

The Mango Tree’s Projects and Priorities for 2015

1. Education, training and employment

The Mango Tree currently directly supports 8,000 orphans and vulnerable children/ young people from 127 villages in both Kyela District, Southern Tanzania and Rachuonyo District in Western Kenya.
These children and young people have been identified as the most vulnerable to school drop out due to poverty and discrimination. Our projects remove the barriers that prevent them from accessing secondary education and further training.

  Fundraising Priorities for 2015

  • Secondary Education Bursary Programme for 2,000 orphans who are attending local and boarding secondary schools in Kenya and Tanzania.

  • Tertiary Education Bursary Programme for 500 orphans who are attending colleges, vocational training institutions and universities.

  • Holiday tuition, learning support and extra curricula drama, dance and sports activities in primary schools for 5,000 disadvantaged children in Kenya.

  • Alternative Family Based Care Programme in Rachuonyo District Kenya for 150 vulnerable girls who have been badly affected by neglect and abuse. We currently have 11 homes in Kenya. We provide counselling, health care, school fees, school uniforms, toiletries and food for the girls in each home.

2. Community Livelihoods

The Mango Tree works closely with the guardians of orphans and families living with HIV. We are currently supporting 5,500 families, helping them to develop their own land-based projects and invest in savings and loans schemes which enable them to expand their small businesses and farm enterprises.

Fundraising Priorities for 2015

  • 200 new families who have been identified as high risk and will be supported with loans and training and other inputs to start their own agricultural projects.
